A domain name is a system for assigning ‘addresses’ to internet web servers. It is somewhat like a sign-post directing traffic to the individual space where your website is located on a hosting server. Your domain name directs traffic to where this is located. For your emails to function and website to be visible online, you need a domain name to be registered.
Domain names are administered by companies, such as ours, operating a domain name registry. These registries operate underneath parent ‘registrars’ for providing domains to end users. There are specific sets of rules and processes around set by ICANN as how domains operate to which we all must abide and cannot be bypassed or amended by us or anyone else.
When a domain is registered, you choose and pay for the registration period. The default is 1 year and the expiry period is set exactly from the date of first registration onwards. So if you register a domain on the 1st of January this year, it will expire on the 1st of January next year. This is how the domain registry system works, it is not something which is up to us.
Registering and renewing a domain is as simple as paying your invoice. But if no action is taken and the domain expires then your emails and your website will cease to function. Domains are separate from hosting. So although you may be up-to-date with web hosting payments; without a domain name a website cannot function.
Renewing an expired domain will undergo a propagation period of up to 24 hours before your emails and website will function again. This is the time it takes for it to take effect across the internet. Again, nothing we have control over. After 3 months an expired domain will return to the public pool and someone else can register it. So it is highly recommended to renew the domain at least 3 to 4 days before expiry.
When your domain is in Redemption status, you may still be able to redeem the domain. The fee for reactivating a domain in the Redemption Period is $99.95 + the normal renewal fee. At the end of the Redemption Period the domain will go into a 5-day delete cycle at the end of which they will become available for anyone to register. There are risk of losing the domain after the delete cycle as it can be available to anyone.
There are several steps after your domain expires to safeguard you from losing any domains you want to keep. Approximately 30 days prior to the domain expiration date, we begin sending reminders to you by email to the email address you listed with us. You will receive at least two reminders prior to the expiration date and one reminder within five days after expiration.
If we are unable to secure payment on or before the domain renewal date, your domain name will expire. As early as one day after expiration, your domain name will be deactivated and replaced with a parking page indicating the domain name has expired, and other services you have associated with the domain name may no longer function. 30 day after expiration, your domain name can be purchased by a third party.
Web hosting is server space where your website files live, and a domain name is the address visitors need in order to view these files as your website. You can have a domain without a website, and you can have a website without a domain name, but to have a website online, you actually need both working together.
In basic terms, web hosting is where your website actually lives. A website is a collection of files that exist on a server connected to the internet and accessible to be viewed via a web browser. When someone visits the given domain, these website files are displayed within the web browser as the actual website. T combined website files on the hosting server with pointed domain make website visible online.
Disk space refers to the total space available for a user to store files on at any time. Files may be any type – HTML, images, videos etc. The total file size may not exceed the disk space. The disk space you need depends on type of media and interactions you’ll be hosting through your site. Your email account’s storage is also counted in disk space, so if you have large files, they will boost your disk space needs.
Server uptime is a term used to describe the amount of time that a web server is fully functional and online. When a server crashes or goes offline, all of the web sites hosted on it are also rendered useless until the problem is repaired. Thus, server uptime is direct indicator of the reliability and consistency of a web hosting provider. We offer 99.9 percent server uptime.
Control panel is a graphical user interface (GUI) to manage your web hosting account. Within your control panel you can upload and organize site content, manage domain name settings, schedule duties and much more. Whether you need comprehensive traffic analysis or a simple interface to check your emails, a good web hosting control panel can do all of this and more.
The migration process from another hosting provider to Anifar is completely free of charge and we guarantee fast cPanel-to-cPanel transfers. Manual website migration is also possible, depending on the individual case. For a web migration, we strongly recommend to have at least 10 GB space on the server. There will be no downtime and no loss of data during your website migration.
Besides the pricing, there are some important criteria to think about when deciding what hosting provider to use. You should look for uptime, server speed, traffic and resource limits, customization opportunities and what type of support they offer. The biggest concerns should be proper uptime and support you may need from time to time to deploy, upload and to modify your website.
